Summary
School lessons to tackle domestic violence.
The government announced that from 2011, children will be taught from the age of five how to prevent violent relationships. Also new help lines will be set up next year. nowadays 80 percent of women experience some form of physical or sexual violence from men in the UK, up to one million one woman is a victim of at least one incident of domestic abuse every year including children, children’s charity found that one in four girls had been slapped, hit or beaten up by their boyfriend. Not everyone agrees that government should be involved in the campaign. Parents group say that children will become confused mini adults if they get lessons in gender equality and preventing violence in relationships, others say the government should not interfere with the parents according them. Charity refuge are positive about the government’s campaign but are not satisfied about the services for some women it is difficult to access services in the UK.
Reaction
I think it is weird that some groups complain about the plans of the government. The statistics show that the problem is huge and that it also starts at a early age. A woman from parents outloud said that children will turn in confused mini-adults from the age of nine to five. In some way she is right. Why should children learn how they have to behave in a relationship at such an early age. But on the other hand there are already problems with young children. Probably it is a need that children have to be taught how to prevent violent relationships. It is really sad.

allegations of abuse by British troops in Iraq
Blog 4
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8360040.stm
Summary
abuse allegations
New allegations have emerged of abuse by British troops in Iraq the military of defence is investigating 33 new cases dated back to 2003. Lawyers of the Iraqi detainees want full public investigations in all cases. The military of defence insist that most soldiers behaved well but since the pull out earlier this year there came more shocking allegations. There are several disturbing allegations like raping, hitting. Another detainee said that they used an electric baton on parts of his body, people were forced to strip and were sexual molesting said an independent. There Is already an inquiry going into the dead of a Iraqi civilian who died in British custody with 93 separated injuries. There is now credible evidence yet but the ministry of defence is going to invest every case. An Iraqi human right campaigner said that many victims waited years coming forward. They were afraid that the British would come back if they complained. Some of there cases were also sexual humiliation and rapping.
Reaction
I think is really shocking news. Soldiers who are trained to keep the environment save and are supposed to help the people in Iraq. Now it turns out that (a few)these soldiers are actually criminals if the allegations are true. In the news they showed a short film tape made by a soldier while they were kicking and hitting an Iraqi. It was horrible because you can hear him laugh, he was enjoying the abuse. I hope that they investigate the case and take rigours. This news It is very damaging for the reputation of the British army.

Social networking sites criticised for failing to protect children

Summary
Social networking sites criticised for failing to protect children
Social network sites such as facebook and Myspace criticized for not doing enough to protect younger children. The child exploitation and online protection (Ceop) have a new tool for reporting abuse. The tool contains many options for victims to reporting abuse. Violations of Bebo’s tems, as well a bullying deterrent, hate speech and sexually explicit content.
Also complains of inappropriate behaviour can directly reported to specially trained ceop officers. The chief executive of the ceop doesn’t understand why the social networks are not using the new tool of the ceop. It is a free service and it has a lot of benefits for all users. The young children are as safe as possible while they are online. But facebook main priority is also safety and they have already “the most robust reporting system” they also work with together with police forces and have trained staff to keep the network safe. Other reasons for not taken the tool are that sites face with technical problems or do not want to lose advertising space.
Reaction
I have read more about this topic and it appears that facebook and Myspace are giving its users numerous ways to report abuse. It seems like ceop only look of the benefits of its own tool. I understand the criticisms but it is maybe a little bit unnecessary because they have already a good reporting system. But one thing is definitely necessary and that is protecting the young children on the internet that they can use the online networks as save as possible. And two safety tools is probably better than one! So I will advise facebook and Myspace to take the tool it is free anyway. The problem is solved in my opinion!

Zaha Hadid's 'Stingray' roof makes waves
summary
Preparations for the Olympic Games in London in 2012 are in progress. The Aquatics centre in London will be an amazing architectural centerpiece of the 2012 Olympics. The striking building is positioning at the entrance to the Olympic park. Yesterday (Wednesday 11 November) the 2.800-ton roof has been lowered into place. After eight moths It was a challenge to put the roof into place. It is a huge progress in the preparation of the Olympic park “it was the most structurally complicated part of the game” they had to lift 70 steel trusses. The heavy roof is supported at only three points. The “stingray roof” is designed by the Iraqi-born British architect Zaha Hadid. He is famous for designing astonishing buildings that frequently won competitions.
reaction
If you say “Olympic games” you think probably about sports ,Olympic fire, tradition, world party, happiness and wins. Another important thing is the building. It look likes if the countries also battle to win the competition to build the most beautiful and astonishing eye catcher. This says a lot about a country I think you can compare it with a men who is showing his big new car to his friends. I see it as a kind of present for the country. Most of the times it is not really necessary but it is a nice thing for people who come to visit it and enjoy it!

Salt in Jamie Oliver sauces a recipe for ill-health

Salt in Jamie Oliver sauces a recipe for ill-health
Summary
The British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has been criticized about the high salt content in his pasta sauces. Jamie Oliver, who has been campaigning to ban the junk in schools and have changed the unhealthy school dinners into fresh nutritious food, thought that he was increasing the eating habits of teenagers but his own pasta sauces are not so healthy either. Jamie Oliver’s olive and garlic sauce is the highest salt product. There was 5.3g of salt per recommended 175g portion of sauce. The adult’s recommended limit is 6g salt a day. Too much salt can cause strokes and heart diseases because salt puts up our blood pressure. It is difficult to see which product is least salty because of the inconsistent labeling and portion sizes. Jamie Oliver’s team improved the pasta sauces and in less than a moth they are available in the supermarkets and the sauces will probably have 0.8g of salt
per 100g.
Reaction
I think it’s weird that a chef who always recommend healthy fresh products and promotes fresh healthy food on school instead of junk food sells his own unhealthy pasta sauces. It is contradictory especially because the salt content in food is a issue these days. People eat too much salt without them knowing. It was not the first time that he has been criticized on the high salt content in pasta sauces. This second time Jamie’s team is taking action to improve the sauce, but why now? It harms his image in my opinion.
